Performance

We build Macabacus tools to maximize speed within the constraints of your environment, and routinely tweak Macabacus to optimize performance further. Accordingly, Macabacus users rarely experience noticeable or material performance issues in Excel. However, performance can be affected by many factors, including:

• Computer hardware / system resources
• Office version
• Office / Excel settings
• Other installed add-ins
• Macabacus settings / features enabled
• Workbook properties
• Selected range size

If you experience performance issues in Excel with Macabacus installed:

1. See our General Usage Tips for working in Excel. Pay particular attention to Excel calculation settings, cell selection size, use of Excel's Camera tool, and Office animation.
2. Try reproducing the problem in a new, blank workbook. If you cannot, then properties and characteristics of the affected workbook are likely causing performance issues. Try running Macabacus' workbook optimizations on the affected workbook. If you continue to experience performance issues with a particular workbook after optimization, we must inspect the affected workbook to investigate further.
3. Temporarily disable other add-ins you have installed (both Excel and COM add-ins) and observe performance. Although add-ins generally play nicely together, any conflicts could affect performance. For example, if multiple add-in operations are triggered when an event occurs, such as a selection change, navigation may appear to be slow.
4. If performance issues persist after pausing Macabacus using Soft Disable (the Pause button on the Macabacus tab), they are not likely caused by Macabacus. Conversely, if Soft Disable seems to improve performance, turn off Soft Disable (the Play button on the Macabacus tab) and disable individual Macabacus features disabled by Soft Disable, one-by-one, until you have isolated the problem to a specific feature (e.g., Undo/Redo, AutoColor on Entry, NavAid).
5. Update your Macabacus software. Updates are free, and we may have already addressed the performance issue in a newer version of Macabacus.
6. Try restarting your PC and immediately try to reproduce the problem in Excel. If performance improves, you may have had background applications or processes running that affected performance.
